What are USACO divisions?

USACO has four divisions of competition, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. All competitors start in Bronze division. In each contest, you can get promoted to the next level with a score of 750 above. You can get promoted on spot for a perfect score (1000) on all problems.

Each division is significantly more difficult than the previous one. It usually takes quite a lot of study, practice, and attempts to advance to a new level.

Once you’re promoted, you’ll be in that division as long as you keep using your usaco account.

HHow are USACO contests scored?

Each contest have 3 programs, each one have 10 or more test cases. Each test case has about 33 points for total 30 test cases, You get credit for each test case solved. When your total score passes 750, you get promoted results. There are 1000 points total for all problems in a division in one contest weekend.

During the contest, you can start at any problem, skip and come back to solve a problem, submit multiple times, only the last submit counts.

How do online classes work?

The format varies based on the teacher and the class. Most are live online classes through Zoom video conferencing. Most classes use email through StemIvy to handle other communication. Some teachers also use other apps to help run their classes, in which case they will let you know. We are constantly exploring more options to improve online learning experience.


How to sign up a course?

Select Course Search, a link to the online registration form is provided following the course search. You will need to make the selection to find the classes that match with your credential. To register course, you will need to create account. Once you pay for your class, you will receive an email acknowledgement when your registration is complete.

What ages and what types of curriculum does StemIvy offer?

StemIvy classes are open to learners from grades K-12, with class listings specifying the age range for which a class is designed. If you have questions about whether the class may be right for a child outside the recommended ages, please contact us at admin@stemivy.com. We will try our best to encourage accelerated students and our teachers will determine the best learning pace for each student.


How to utilize StemIvy as your COVID-19 Academic Resource Center?

COVID-19 exacerbated existing achievement gaps. As more time passed, the learning gaps and inequities that already existed were widening by the minute.

StemIvy high-quality online education programs that run extra curriculums and academic programs as supplements your hybrid, remote learning or homeschooling.

Most of programs are enrichment programs or exclusive. Great.

What is a typical schedule for our online class?

We offer very flexible class schedule to fit our students’ busy schedule. Our class run by session (10 lessons per session) or by semester (Fall, Spring, Summer semester). Or, you can create your class schedule and frequency.


What are the requirements when students take our online classes?

One of the keys to have a successful online live class is great interaction and self-discipline. We require our students to turn on the video during our live class to have engaged e-learning experience. We also require our students to finish their homework and teacher will review during the lesson.

Because you are not required to be in class at a specific time you have to be motivated to get the work done on your own.

What is USACO Contest?

USA Computing Olympiad is an online contest given to high school or younger students.

USACO gives contests during 4 weekends in December, January, February and March (US Open). During these weekends spanning Friday through Monday, students can choose any time to start their personal timer for that contest weekend. The time per student per weekend is usually 4 hours, or 5 hours for US Open. Once start-button clicked, your timer will keep ticking until it expires – no pauses allowed.

Students can make a free account on the www.usaco.org site before the competition.

What programming language does USACO use?

Java, C++, and Python are the most popular programming languages in USACO. Java and Python submissions get twice the time limit of C++ to account for their longer running times.
